OnLine XP: the same electrical schematics on AutoCAD and BricsCAD

Electrical engineering shops rarely run on a single CAD platform. The more common reality is a mosaic: AutoCAD on older workstations, BricsCAD on new seats bought to keep licence costs under control, and a few legacy clients who still want files opened with AutoCAD.

The pain shows up the moment you try to customise the workflow: plugins and electrical schematic suites are typically locked to one host CAD. An add-on built for AutoCAD won't work on BricsCAD and vice versa. The result is duplicated symbol libraries, divergent numbering rules, double maintenance and — whenever a project crosses platforms — hours of manual rework.

One library, two platforms

A schematic started in AutoCAD opens, gets edited and saved in BricsCAD with no conversion, no fidelity loss, no manual rework.

In practice this means two things. First, a team with mixed licences works on a single project archive, with no platform barrier between people. Second, anyone wanting to migrate gradually from AutoCAD to BricsCAD (or the other way around) doesn't have to throw away years of customisation: they can do it one schematic at a time, keeping the existing knowledge base intact.
